I am a currently un-employed Software Engineer who has spent his time since college doing freelance work for both small businesses and individuals, namely website design, photographic editing or graphical design. In between all that I also occasionally get some work at a tiling company run by a family member. Not my chosen profession but the bills still have to be paid and when family asks you to help out its usually only fair that you do.
I’ve also worked in a computer manufacturing company as both a kitter (putting parts in the box) and a builder (building the machines, namely personal computers) so although I’ve trained for the software side of the industry most of me experience is in the practical manufacturing side of it.
So now I can both put together a personal computer, doing everything from connecting the power supply, to installing the heat sink, to correctly installing the ram or graphics card and when its all put together I can boot it up and install the software necessary to make it work. Sure this sounds like a good business in itself but and there’s always a but, I’ve already looked into it and at least in my area currently nearly every single freelance contractor of this type has been run out of business by larger, broader companies. In effect, much like a small grocery store versuses say Tesco.
I try to spend my time plaing soccer and rugby as I like to stay active if possible. If I’m not playing sports, I also quite enjoy reading, namely sci fi, fiction, historic and comedy titles. Some of my favourite authors include Michael Stackpoole and Timothy Zahn. I like to spend some of my time just idly expressing my creative side by sketching and drawing.
Oh I also absolutely fell in love with Medieval Re-enactment a few years ago and continue to do it to this day. I consider it an honour and a privilege to speak to people at events such as the Kilmallock Medieval Festival. and to put on a display along side my friends as we both show the audience how people lived back in those days, how they survived and also how they fought against each other. And yes all the armour and weapons are real, we are not a branch of the SCA. We just train very hard to make it look real while not actually hurting each other.
I’m also passionate about cooking, from learning how to in my early college days, thanks mom!, right up to now. I hope to post some recipes that I’ve enjoyed here in the near future.
Oh and I nearly forgot, I also play World of Warcraft on the Sha’tar realm and am currently enjoying battling my way through the end game with a very friendly and talentated group of people which are in my current guild, A Perfect Circle. I’m alliance in case your wondering.
Ok in brief that wraps up who I am and what I’m doing at the moment, I still am actively seeking employment in the computing industry preferably in the Munster area of Ireland but I am of course willing to travel.
Enjoy the blog and thank you for reading.
